Besides teaching, his professional musical experience has included both choral and orchestral performance, composition, publication, conducting and church music directing. Jon Case, the church moderator and director of Heavenbound, a contemporary Christian music group, was raised in Avon, CT. He got his love of God and music from his parents, who were active in the choir and all aspects of the church. He joined the Junior Choir at an early age and the Senior Choir at 14. He taught himself guitar and remained active in music in church, home and school. After graduation from Avon High School, he served on staff at Camp Wightman, the American Baptist Camp and Conference Center in North Stonington, CT. He then attended Career Trades Institute in Hartford, CT, and pursued a career as a golf course mechanic. Also, during this period, he performed in several local bands ranging from country to rock. He stopped performing professionally in the early 1980’s. He continued to sing in the choir and was approached in the late 1970’s by Diane Wood, the pastor’s wife, to help start a youth folk group. The Folk Group, as it was called, went through many changes as youth grew up, moved away, and young adults began looking to join. This group became Heavenbound in 2003, and has continued to participate in worship and have occasional concerts. Jon has written several songs. He has also continued in the golf field, returning to school and becoming a golf course superintendent. In addition to music, Jon is an avid golfer, horseshoe player and bowler. Jon lives in Westfield, MA, with his wife Sue, has 5 children, and 8 grandchildren. He is presently employed at Airways Golf Course in Suffield, CT.
