"The food that endures, the food that will truly satisfy our cravings, comes from God. It is revealed to us in Jesus, who calls himself in this passage the “bread of life” (Jn 6:35). This bread is a gift from God, one that we don’t have to earn or buy with money. It’s free. But if we keep striving only for the food that perishes, if all of our energy and time are spent on that, then we’ll miss the wonderful gift of free bread that God has given us in Jesus Christ. Blaise Pascal, one of my favorite Christian writers, stated, “There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every man which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God, the Creator, made known through Jesus.”1 We have within us a God-shaped hole. Nothing will fill up this hole except God. So let us feed on the God revealed in Jesus Christ: let us chew on his words, swallow his promises, feel the fullness of his grace, and be satisfied, finally, with his love. Amen."
